I believe, that a school is one of the most important institutions and one of the most
challenging assignments for an architect. The school environment is a vital experience from
early childhood, which one remembers for his whole life. It has to be practically indestructible
and look representative at the same time.
Our objective was to create a clearly defined and legible building that on one hand fulfils the role of
the first institution attended by children, and on the other hand unifies the chaotic surroundings
of a built-up area in the centre of Ostrava.
The institution consists of a nursery (60 children), a primary school (240 pupils) and a high school (110 pupils). All of these parts are logically organised around the centre of the building in accordance with the cardinal points. We focused on the transparency of the areas, the maximisation
of natural light, and conciseness of the form. When designing an educational institution, the cover must never forego the contents.
